“Wow! Police Precinct! Policewomen and guns! So cool”, shouted in excitement by about 70 kindergarten students and teachers who arrived at Sinpu Police Precinct at 9:30 a.m. visiting from the Affiliated Kindergarten of Xinpu Elementary School (新埔國小附屬幼稚園). Being full of curiosity and admiration, these kids had been shouting ‘wows’ throughout their tour to the police precinct.
The tour began at the auditorium of the precinct, in which a video was shown to demonstrate a working day of police officers. Afterwards, the equipments required for performing police duties were introduced, such as firearms, bulletproof vest and helmet. The kids were also given a chance to try those equipments on, by which they could experience the heavy burden of a police officer when they are on their shifts.
Furthermore, in order to enable these kids to participate in the crime prevention schemes, a crime awareness promotion was given by the detectives of Crime Investigation Unit, during which the kids were actively giving their answers concerning preventive tactics of crime in a Quiz session hosted by the officers as well as promotional items were given when they answered correctly.
The last unit that the kids were introduced to was the Command and Control Center. The ways to use 110 Emergency Hotline and the standard operating procedure of responding to 110 calls by the officers were explained. More importantly, the fact that the emergency hotline should only be used when a real emergency occurs was highlighted by the officers and children were asked not do otherwise to spare the hotlines for the people who need immediate help.
When the students were about to finish their visit and back to the kindergarten, a certificate of appreciation was given to the officers of Sinpu Police Precinct. The Deputy Chief Huang, Fu-Lian (黃福良) accepted the certificate on behalf of the officers and a group photo was shot in front of the precinct. Nevertheless, Deputy Chief Huang exhorted the little students to be a hard leaner and a person of great value to the society. He further encouraged the students, as a conclusive remark to their visit, that they can join the police force when they become a proper adult in the future so they could have an opportunity to devote themselves to improve the welfare of the society and safeguard the peace of their own country.
