HsinChu County Police Bureau Celebrates Mother’s Day
10 May, 2016
To express gratitude for all the hard work by colleagues in the police bureau who are also mothers, the HsinChu County Police Bureau held an event to celebrate Mother’s Day beforehand on May 6, 2016 at 3:00 pm, at the second-floor canteen.
Traditionally, police work had been predominantly male. However, recently, the number of women is increasing annually. Currently, the number of women in the department is 188, accounting for 18% of the total number of employees, with 110 people who are also mothers, which accounts for 59% of the total women. In addition, 20 of those have husbands who are also police. Five of those are also new mothers.
Because the duty and work for female police are no different from their male colleagues, but they also need to assume the responsibility for caring for the family and children, their hard work is unimaginable. Yet, they still work diligently to fulfill their duty, with extraordinary performance and achievements. For example, the captain of the Criminal Investigation Corps, Zhuang (莊琪瑛), won second place for the 2015 biannual personal merit award for her “assessment plan for detecting and preventing crime”. Officer Peng (彭美智) of the Xinpu police branch helped a lost boy find his family and returned him home during her active duty between 8 am to 2 pm for the “Hakka Cultural Festival” on August 29, 2015. Other mother colleagues also have outstanding performance seizing drug trafficking, catching drunk driving, maintaining the safety of the community, and controlling traffic. These women exemplify the steadfastness and talent of mothers at the police workplace.
The department installed 11 breast-feeding rooms, 37 female dormitory rooms, and 49 female shower stalls, allowing these female colleagues to have a friendly work and rest environment.
Thus, on the eve of this special holiday, Commissioner Lee (李政曉) of the police bureau and Executive Secretary Li (李錦復) of the HsinChu County Friends of the Police Association handed out carnation flowers and chocolates to thank these mother colleagues for their hard work this and past year, and at the same time, wishing them a happy Mother’s Day and forever healthy and beautiful.
