Located in the northeast hemisphere 122° East and 22.5° West, Hsinchu County is situated at the northwestern part of Taiwan. It is connected to Taoyuan County in the north, Miaoli County in the south, Taiwan Strait in the west and Hsuehshan Mountain and Dabajian Mountain in the east. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, Hsinchu County’s land area is 1,427.5931sq.km2. composed mainly of uplands, tablelands and mountains except for the alluvial plains of the Fongshan River and Toucian River mouth area and partial ancient river lands.

Neighboring Taoyuan County, Miaoli County, Taichung City and Yilan County, Hsinchu County also surrounds Hsinchu City; with convenient transportation and with the THSR Hsinchu station situated in Zhubei City, it only takes 32 minutes from Hsinchu to Taipei Main Station, 20 minutes to Taoyuan International Airport and 90 minutes to Kaohsiung Zuoying district.

Since 1991, a change in Hsinchu County’s economic structure has brought a significant increase in population, causing Hsinchu County’s population to grow rapidly especially in the Zhubei Urban Planning area and the Special District of the THSR Hsinchu station. Hsinchu’s total population, by the end of October, 2021, is approximately 574,806 people with an average annual population increase of around 6 thousand people.

After the founding of the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park in late 1981’s, the number of high-tech manufacturers in the Hsinchu have been augmented and they began to expand outside the park. Due to the geographical proximity, employees of these high-tech manufacturers began to settle in Hsinchu County, particularly in Baoshan, Zhudong, Xinfeng and Hukou areas, as they are close to the factory area. All such factors have reshaped the social structure and appearance of Hsinchu County.
